How I became a therapist
Becoming a therapist started with a personal and difficult journey…
In the early 90s, my life seemed to be falling apart. I went through a painful bereavement and was also suffering marital and financial problems. This in turn lead to me experiencing anxiety and panic attacks. I sought help with a grief counsellor for the bereavement and although this helped a little, I still felt I needed more support.
So I started to explore other options. At this point I had also fallen into sugar addiction, as a coping mechanism. I was having 8 spoonfuls of sugar in a mug of tea and up to 40 mugs a day! Fortunately I then successfully sought hypnotherapy treatment, which put a stop to this. The therapy also helped me make radical and positive changes in my life across the board.
At that point I began to realise that, with the right support, anyone can make these changes in their lives and that we don’t always need pills or extreme forms of treatment. What we need is someone with understanding, compassion and the tools to help us release ourselves and move forward to a more positive and fulfilling life.
My experience served to pique my interest in all aspects of mental health and the various treatments available – so I started to research and then to study. Over the next decade I qualified in a number of practical psychotherapy and hypnotherapy techniques that are proven and successful across a wide range of issues.
I’ve also gained a wealth of practical experience working with a large number of clients experiencing diverse personal challenges. Today I use a combination of therapies to help people with problems and concerns that are holding them back, causing long-term issues, and preventing from living the life they deserve.
